Week 2

This week, I did a little more research on surrealism and the artists associated. Among the many surreal artists, the ones that stood out were Max Ernst, Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali. Learning about these respective artists, their works and Surrealism in general would help guide me or at least take inspiration from in order to create dreamscape like works depicting escapism and unpleasant realities.

The first piece is supposed to depict unpleasant realities, in the form of a dark forest. Initially, it shows the back of a woman's head, with long dark hair, except the bottom half of her hair is pulled upwards and the strands of the hair are shaped like tree branches. People face many different problems in their life an the hair is supposed to represent the problems they have and the bigger they get or the more problems they face, the longer the hair gets.

This one is titled, "Land of Lost Toys", where toys have either been lost, thrown away and or forgotten and the lost toys are supposed to represent lost childhood memories.
